Migrant camp stabbing probed

EDNEYVILLE — The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent stabbing off Piney View Drive in Edneyville that happened in the early hours of Monday morning, according to Capt. Charlie McDonald, press information officer.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call at about 1 a.m. at a migrant labor camp and found a Hispanic male who was apparently stabbed.

The victim was airlifted to Mission Hospitals in Asheville. He is expected to recover and is in serious but stable condition, McDonald said. Sheriff Rick Davis said the “investigation into the incident is still ongoing and no arrests have been made at this point.”

He added, “Investigators from our Criminal Investigations Division have the case now and are in the process of interviewing witnesses and evaluating evidence.”

The events that led to the stabbing are still uncertain, stated a press release from the sheriff’s office.

At least one witness said the fight started over a card game. But investigators have not received much information that would lead them to the assailant or positively identify the victim.

Investigators plan to interview the victim as soon as doctors can determine he is able to answer questions.
