EAST FLAT ROCK — East Henderson’s Eagles captured their second straight game Friday, 47-21, over visiting Enka.
The two wins come after a season-opening loss to Tuscola for the Eagles (2-1).
“I thought we came out strong in the first half but became complacent to start the second half,” said
East coach Brett Chappell.
“We were able to recapture the momentum in the fourth quarter, however, and preserved the win.”
Santiago Garcia got the Eagles on the scoreboard in the first quarter, hauling in an 18-yard pass from quarterback Chase Hill with under three minutes left in the first quarter. With a missed extra point attempt East led 6-0 at the end of the quarter’s end.
In the second, Rakim Waters got into the scoring act for East, slashing into the end zone from 13 yards out.
Later in the second, Michael Robinson scored his first of two touchdowns on a 51-yard scamper off right tackle.
Before halftime, Tyler Arrowood added a TD on an eight-yard pass from Hill, running the halftime lead to 27-0.
The third quarter started out like a track meet, with both teams scoring on kickoff returns.
Enka’s Saunders returned the opening kickoff 70 yards to score the Jets’ first touchdown.
When Enka, which falls to 0-3, kicked off following the TD, Waters hauled the ball in at his own 15 yard line and streaked 85 yards to pay dirt.
Later in the third, Hill connected with Garcia on his second scoring pass of the night, this one from 39 yards out, running the third period score to 40-7.
In the fourth period, Waters got his second score of the evening for East on a three-yard plunge into the end zone.
Enka put two touchdowns on the scoreboard in the fourth to produce the final outcome.
Robinson led the Eagle offense with 167 rushing yards on 20 carries.
In the receiving column, Garcia caught three passes for 97 yards and two TDs.
Hill was 11-of-17 passing, with one interception and three touchdowns. He threw for 213 yards
East led the offensive stats with 282 yards rushing and 213 passing
“This was a good win for us,” said Chappell. “We really needed this one to gain momentum as we go up aginist Owen next week.”
