SMITHFIELD, N.C. (AP) — Police are searching for a 3-year-old boy who disappeared from a North Carolina flea market.
Investigators resumed their search Monday for Siraj Munir Davenport of Four Oaks. He was at his mother’s side as she loaded her car at the Brightleaf Flea Market in Smithfield on Sunday. She said she turned around and he was gone.
WRAL-TV in Raleigh reports a state Highway Patrol helicopter flew over the area Monday. Johnston County sheriff’s deputies led a ground search.
Smithfield Police Chief Steve Gillikin said it may too early to consider the case a possible abduction. The search was called off Sunday evening because of bad weather.
Davenport also answers to “Raji.” He is about 3 feet tall and weighs 35 pounds. He has dark brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a light-blue shirt imprinted with a yellow truck, dark blue sweat pants and blue Adidas tennis shoes.
