Mediacom to upgrade cable system

Mediacom Communications will upgrade its cable system in Henderson County.

The planned upgrade will increase bandwidth, allow for additional channels and provide improvements in overall service and quality, said Maggie Blythe, Mediacom senior manager.

The upgrade will cause some services to be “off intermittently” while necessary changes to the cable plant are made and new equipment installed, according to Mediacom.

“We understand that customers will be affected and do appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to complete the project,” Blythe said.

Preliminary work on the Hendersonville upgrade has begun and actual construction will start next week. The project is expected to last through the end of the year.

Information on planned outages will be communicated to customers by media alerts, channel crawls and billing messages.

Construction will start Monday in Horse Shoe, Etowah and Mills River and will continue for the next few weeks in that area.

Final plans for the cable upgrade have not been announced, but the benefits will allow customers enhanced services and products not already available, according to Mediacom.

Additional bandwidth will allow Mediacom to consider adding more digital channels, more HD-TV programming, faster Internet speeds or Video on Demand.
